Schools across the state were closed by Gov. Samuel McCall the previous day. Now all concert halls, dance halls, movie houses, and theaters are closed immediately due to the flu outbreak. Pool halls, saloons, and soda fountains and “other public gathering places are closed on October 5, 2018. Church services are subsequently canceled, wakes are suspended, and caskets pile up in cemeteries. The closure orders end on October 20, 1918.
